- Maharashtra: Number of examinees drops by 50,000 this year
- The number of
students appearing for the secondary school certificate (SSC) examination
starting Friday has declined by 50,000 this year.
- The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, which conducts the exam in nine divisions of the state, has failed to attribute the decline to any specific reason. Experts, however, feel that migration of students from the state board to non-state board schools or failing students in Class IX could probably be some of the reasons.
- Migration of students to non-state board schools could be a possibility. However, there is also a need to map these figures with last year’s numbers of Class IX of SSC schools. It may throw a light on other practices like failing students in Class IX, mainly in aided schools.
